Conferences

Three Indo-German conferences on "Science for Sustainability" are scheduled. The first conference took place in New Delhi, September 2008, on the occasion of the visit by Federal Minister of Education and Research, Prof. Dr. Annette Schavan to (then) Indian Union Minister of Science and Technology, Shri Kapil Sibal. The Second conference took place in Bonn, April 2009 focussing on "Energy" and "Landuse" and the third conference, focussing on "water" and "waste management" took place at IIT Delhi, New Delhi, February 2010, back-to-back with the Delhi Sustainable Development Summit (DSDS 2010).

    First Conference (C1)

    The first German-Indian Conference on "Science for Sustainability - Driver for a Common Future" took place in New Delhi on 9 September 2008. The organizers were the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research and the Department for Science and Technology of the Government of India. Approximately 80 representatives from science, politics, industry and civil society took part. The event formed part of Federal Minister Dr. Annette Schavan's visit to India. During the conference, she and her Indian counterpart Kapil Sibal signed a Joint Declaration in which they agreed to work together in the field of "Research for Sustainability".

    Second Conference (C2)

    The second German-Indian Conference in the framework of the Dialogue for Sustainability, "Science and Technology - Drivers for a Common Future", took place on 27 and 28 April 2009 in Bonn, Germany. Sustainability is an integrated concept and a guiding principle in international politics in times of global change, global challenges, and global responsibility. Sustainability means ensuring equity between generations, quality of life and social cohesion. Informed decisions that are sustainable in economic, environmental and social terms as well as coordinated efforts are essential to the preservation of our vital natural resources.

    Third Conference (C3)

    The third Indo-German Conference on Science for Sustainability was held at the IIT Delhi, New Delhi, India on 3 and 4 February 2010, back-to-back with the Delhi Sustainable Development Summit (DSDS 2010). The goal of the 3rd Indo-German Conference was to define strategic common areas between India and Germany in the fields of "water" and "waste management" research and development and to build a network between key actors. The networks are expected to generate research, development and innovation alliances for the better use of scientific and technological knowledge.
