A bilateral working group with Russia has been established. It held a workshop in June 2008 to discuss its next steps and you can find the outcomes of this workshop in the form of a protocol here.
The objective of the joint scientific expert workshop is to assemble knowledgeable Russian and German experts to discuss potential common fields of scientific interest and the most relevant topics and options for mid- and long-term collaborations in the context of "Science for Sustainability". The engagement of Russian and German experts in this workshop should contribute to finding a common language and mutual understanding across potentially differing concepts and to bringing forward the political and technical commitment of the dialogue partners.
The expected outcomes of the scientific expert workshop are the identification of the thematic scope and suitable stakeholder groups for the dialogue. Based on the results of the workshop, the German and the Russian governments will agree on the implementation of the dialogue process. In consideration of the agreement of June 2008 and in view of the recent discussions of the German-Russian Commission, the thematic focus will be on:
